d painting test

So I decided to do a couple of experiments on this one, one being the traditional way of inking via illustrator rather than the Sherm Way. I think I'll use a mix of both - it's too hard to get some bigger flowing lines free hand. It definitely has some problems. I think some of the lighting is a little iffy, and one of the eyes seems a little off to me, but it's not bad for two hours work.

Feel The Love

This is one of my favorite songs to sing in the car. This and Blind by Hercules and Love Affair, The Good Thing by the Talking Heads, Super Rad by The Aquabats and Run I'm a Natural Disaster by Gnarls Barkley.

Raspberry Redd in Issue 1 Page 6

I'm not so sure about that halftone that I have on the middle panel. Other than that I'm pretty happy with how this page turned out. There's definitely some things that I had to edit in my imaging editing software, but for the most part I think it came out pretty OK with a minimum amount of digital alteration besides color.

Raspberry Redd Issue 1 page 5

Second page done today! I'm pretty proud of myself for getting these out as fast as I did. You know, this isn't really a webcomic where there's a punchline for each page and is self contained. I wonder if that bothers anyone.

I'm fairly happy with this one, but I'm still on my way to getting a couple more done today.

Pages 1 - 3 fixed for legibility

Special thanks to Jay Dyke of the wonderful Cartoon Smart for being nice enough to point out a sea-worthy font for my comic. You can now TELL what is going on, which is a big plus for any story not directed by Michale Bay. Plus I fixed some little problems here and there that were bothering me, mostly the EMPTY VOID that page 3 took place in has been replaced with the LAND OF IMPLIED BACKGROUND

I'm starting to think that typing out the text IS the best course of action. I'm kind of happy with this one. It took me a little longer to pencil this one, but I managed to ink it much faster, so that evens out. That being said, I feel kind of silly that this page doesn't have any backgrounds.

page 2 finished

This page had some real problems that occurred within it. In fact, if you were to see the original page, before it got edited in photoshop, it would look noticeably different. For one, the panel at the bottom of the page's image has been greatly scaled up. You were able to see all the way to end of the book bag. It's actually a shame that it got cut out, because I liked some of the detail. BUT detail is detail, and I can always shove it into another panel some other time.

Page One complete?

My special lady wants it hand written - I would prefer to type it out. I guess it all depends - is this legible enough? I'd like it to be readable without having to zoom in a whole lot, and my handwriting can't really do that that well.

Scrapped Color style

I decided against my comic being all colored like this. This panel worked, but some of the other panels on the same page didn't look that great. Maybe I'll post that scrapped page up here after I get it done for reals.

Raspberry Redd IN #1 layout collection

Here is the entire thing, in spread form. For some reason it seems as if Blogger has decided to do it's own this as it feels necessary, which I guess is fine, if it didn't mean reordering my pictures however it feels. That being said I'm incredibly happy with myself for having completed these, even if it ends up that I got almost half of these done in one day. What I'm doing for the time being is model sheets, as I think there's some weird proportion issues within these layouts that I'd like to alay during the comic itself.

THAT BEING SAID, I'm sure that this comic is INCREDIBLY hard to follow without any text for the most part, but from an artistic standpoint, if you could tell me what I need to change, what should be added, and what does and doesn't work compositionally I would be extremely grateful.
