Temporary Portfolio

I had to slap a portfolio together really quickly today because I had a sudden interview on Monday. I'm crossing my fingers that they'll let me turn in my full one in two weeks.

A Second Step

This is my attempt at easing into Flash animation. I want to make sure that I have a grasp of it before I go full blown into it. I think it's clear what's what, due to line quality. I'm trying to get used to the pencil tool in Flash, but it seems to be fighting with me a little bit. I had to make a few TINY tiny changes to my character's face because of it, but nothing too major.

Countdown of Catastrophic Proportions Part 4!

I don't know if I achieved what I was going for with the water and the moon. I guess I should have used a little reference. I think it gets the point across, and these characters are so simple it'd almost be silly to have anything be more detailed than it is. I also came to the conclusion that a hard edge shading job is what this calls for. Rendering or soft edge shading are good for some things, but this is REALLY cartoony, and I don't think making this subtly rendered is really that worth it as far as the overall design goes.

Catastrophe Countdown part 3!

Another Spry Comic, who I have been informed, via tags on my own blog, belongs to a comic called Zoological Follies, which sounds like a comic from 1918. Which is, knowing me from February, on purpose. First a little note about my favorite animal. Though I use pigs and bears and rabbits, none of these are my favorite animal. Neither is the elephant, the aardvark, the armadillo, or the elusive chupacabre. No, my favorite animal is the Takin. He's a goofy fellow, the Takin, but perhaps I like him MORE for it. In fact, let's imagine that that's the ONLY reason I like him! He was also the only friendly animal when I went to the Lincoln Park Zoo, which the penguin pit is loosly based off of. The Elephant area is from Brookfield, a much more "complete" zoo than the Lincoln Park Zoo. Of course, the Brookfield Zoo IS pay admission, so that is to be expected.

At the Lincoln Park Zoo you can just stroll in, steal an emperor penguin and run out!

(not that I'm advocating such a thing.)

Countdown to Catastrophe pt. 2

I hope that the text isn't too illegible. I'm still working on my comic script right now. There's two things I'm working out with these comics - my handwriting for comics, and Spry the pig. My personal favorite drawing of him is his reaction to being told the world is going to end. He seems appropriately wide, which is what I'm going for.

A First Step

I hate admitting it but this is the first animation I've finished in some time. I have lots to do still, and I believe I'll manage to finish it all eventually.

Also, what's Blogger's deal with Flash? I've had a lot of problems with it for seemingly no reason. Otherwise the service here is great, but for some reason embedding an .swf is just a never ending trip on the pain train.

CATASTROPHE COUNTDOWN! pt.1

I haven't messed with Spry in a while, which is a shame. I like working with him because he gets freaked out or excited about EVERYTHING. It's just a fun kind of character to work with and play off of other characters.

I'm considering animating all of these strips, but for some reason I have a hard time getting people I know to do voices.

I noticed after the fact that the composition on the first frame is a little weak.
