Mon Lunes!

Welp, I started a new sketchbook last week on Friday. I wish I had a physically larger one at times, but this one is literally pocket sized. It feels like the upper left pocket on my default spring jacket was MADE for these Moleskine books. Here are some assorted sketches from breaks.

I'm starting to get a little more stylized. I have no idea if this is a good thing or not, because no one is guiding me. If someone was I don't know if that'd even have a particularly positive impact on this.
Oops! I accidentally saved this picture as a bitmap, but you don't really lose anything because of it. That's the nice thing about rough sketches.

I didn't make the neck of the basketball player nearly long enough. He looks like a man-turtle. When you do a super fast sketch sometimes you wind up with things such as this happening. Also the first basketball game I paid attention to in probably a decade was this past week at work. The Celtics absolutely decimated the Hawks, just like the real celts destroyed actual hawks*
PINEAPPLODON is a monster that is probably not going to be included in THE BIG BOOK OF MONSTRONOMY, so I decided that I wouldn't erase him. I'd say that most of the monsters aren't that ridiculous, but there's actually quite a few.
These pages are from different breaks. Apparently I decided drawing people extra lumpy was a good idea. Then later on I realized that there's a chance that they'll SEE my sketchbook, so I decided to do more flattering portraits.
Kind of.
Yes, that's right I did a semi-attractive portrait of someone. I can do that. I do it often. But that sort of thing, really, let's face it, isn't as interesting as unflattering portraits.

*I don't know anything about Celtic history.

El Finito de Sun Domingo

This is the end of the sketchbook that I just cut through like butter. It's crazy how fast I went through this thing. All 80 pages in a scant two weeks!
Some people have been noticing me drawing them at work and it's been getting harder and harder to draw people. Couple that with the fact that I've been seeing the same people day in and day out at the same time.

I have a feeling that I can be a little harsh on some people. That feeling only comes over me when I realize that they can see my sketchbook.

I'm getting closer and closer to being able to stylize well at will, which is good. I am excited about that.

Millenium Park, April 23rd

Between school business and dinner, I went to Millennium Park and drew some locals. Potential locals. I didn't ask everyone where they were from. I filled in a surprising amount there, until I realized how long I was there, and how long I was scouting for a good spot to observe people.

As a side note, I'd like to say what I had to go into school for: Despite having graduated over a calender year ago, I never actually received my degree. Now, my family and I spent a good deal of coin on this education, and regardless of how it panned out, I'd at least like to have PROOF that I graduated from a higher learning institution. But I digress!

It was the first nice day of the year. I mean you can say that the one day in February that's unseasonably nice is the first nice day of the year, but 50 degrees is only truly nice around 0 degrees. This day was perfect. It was 75 degrees, a light wind, lots of sunshine, and just enough clouds in the sky to make it really picturesque.
The reason I mention this is that lots of people were wearing sunglasses. Like half or more. It looks like, at least in Chicago, that the giant ridiculous sunglasses thing might be in remission. It also looks like knee-length skirts are in style, which is makes walking down the street much less distracting.

I don't think this old man is a guy with super powers from an anime or japanese fighting game. He could be. He had a couple guys who looked just like him lurking around, like guys from fighting games and anime tend to. It may have just been his family though.
